Itinerary:
-
Day 1
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo
Your guide meets you inside Cairo International Airport, handles the arrival formalities and takes you to your hotel by private air-conditioned vehicle. The rest of the day is free to rest. Before leaving, your guide walks you through the week and confirms the plan for eclipse morning. Overnight in Cairo.
-
Day 2
Day 2: The Great Pyramids of Giza and the Grand Egyptian Museum
You start on the Giza plateau in front of the Great Pyramids of Giza, built for Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinos, then visit the Sphinx Statue and the Valley Temple. In the afternoon you continue to the Grand Egyptian Museum, where your Egyptologist takes you through the Tutankhamun galleries and the pieces worth slowing down for. Overnight in Cairo.
-
Day 3
Day 3: Fly to Luxor for Karnak and Luxor Temples
You fly south to Luxor, the ancient city of Thebes and the place this trip is built around. In the afternoon you visit the Karnak Temple and its Great Hypostyle Hall, then the Luxor Temple as the light drops. Your guide confirms the arrangements for eclipse morning. Overnight in Luxor.
-
Day 4
Day 4: Luxor West Bank - Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut
You cross to the West Bank for The Valley of the Kings, where the New Kingdom tombs are cut deep into the rock and the painted ceilings still hold their colour. You continue to the Temple of Hatshepsut, rising in terraces against the cliff, and stop at the Colossi of Memnon. Overnight in Luxor.
-
Day 5
Day 5: Eclipse Day - The Total Solar Eclipse Over Luxor
This is the day the itinerary exists for. On 2 August 2027 the path of totality crosses Egypt and passes almost directly over Luxor, giving the city just over six minutes of total darkness - the longest totality available on easily reachable land for the rest of the century.
You leave early for a prepared viewing site outside the city with an open horizon, away from street lighting and crowds. Shade, seating, water and certified solar viewing glasses are provided, and your guide talks you through each stage, from first contact to the moment the sun disappears and the temperature drops. The rest of the day is deliberately left free. Overnight in Luxor.
-
Day 6
Day 6: Transfer to Hurghada on the Red Sea
After the intensity of eclipse day the pace changes. You transfer by private vehicle across the eastern desert to Hurghada on the Red Sea coast and check into your beach hotel. The afternoon is yours. Overnight in Hurghada.
-
Day 7
Day 7: Free Day on the Red Sea
A full free day on the coast. You can spend it on the beach, or add an optional snorkelling or diving trip out to the reefs, which are among the most biodiverse in the world. Your guide can arrange the boat and equipment. Overnight in Hurghada.
-
Day 8
Day 8: Fly from Hurghada to Cairo
A last morning by the sea, then a short flight from Hurghada to Cairo. On arrival you are transferred to your hotel. If time allows your guide can add a final stop in the city. Overnight in Cairo.
-
Day 9
Day 9: Departure from Cairo
Breakfast at your hotel, then a private transfer to Cairo International Airport for your flight home. If your departure is late your guide can arrange a last few hours in the city. End of services.
